By 11:30 there were already half a dozen little pizzas ready to go and the pressure was on to start the first bake, which was postponed for another 40 minutes until I eventually succumbed to the pressure and agreed to formally close the oven up with its first load of pizzas. Hindsight being such a wonderfull thing confirmed my doubts and the pizzas took a while longer than anticipated, probably another 40 minutes. With the first cook done we soon got the hang of things and rebuilt the fire to get the oven much hotter and baking resumed with another 30 or so pizzas going in over the rest of the day.
All in all the day was a great success, one of the benefits of its wild location is there was plenty to do whilst we waited for the oven to heat up and bake, a few impromptu bushcraft demos, shelter builds, stream damming or even the opportunity to pull up a log and enjoy the forest, and that was before we got to sample the food.
Plenty of people seemed very committed to returning though the summer to use the oven for themselves, and once the format is sorted Arlington court will leave the oven available to anyone who wishes to use it, they just need to bring the goodies for baking pizzas, cookies, muffins, bread, casserole the list is endless.
I think it will be a wonderful way to spend a day with family and friends
